Kick-starting Oblivion

So I decided to recently start playing Oblivion again. Having already played the game through once in vanilla settings I thought I'd go big this time around and go all out.

So I went on and searched around for mods that I'd use. Getting a couple I liked, install it, I thought. I was needles to say, shocked by all the programs that I needed to successfully install all the mods. And I had no idea how to go around doing it.

Worked like no tomorrow, sweeting like a pig and finally got it all installed I thought. Just to face the yellow WTF missing object stars we all love. Not finding the source I gave up.

A few days later thought I was determent to get this going. I reinstalled the game and searched high and love for a Compilation Mod. I thought that ought to work for me.

And yes, indeed did I find a mod. It was TCOM: Oblivion Mod Compilation made by a nice fella calling himself TR0LL.
You can read about it somewhere in the middle of this thread.
Download it from a torrent here or direct download here. Since I'm not able to use torrent I went with the direct download. Worked just great for me.

I downloaded it and followed this document that the maker had put together. Very easy to follow, and I actually learned how to use BOSS and BASH Patching from following this, making it very easy for me to update my game as I feel I liked.

Be aware that before you install it all, that Kobu's Character Advancement System 2.4.1 will replace the old leveling system files and can't be reverted. Although once you learn how this mod works, I don't think you'll want to go back. Just make sure to read the ReadMe on how it works and you'll be fine.

Also be careful about the Skip Intro part of the KCAS installer if you want to keep the intro part of the game. I accidentally had it removed and it took a while for me to get back in touch with the main story.

Now about some modifications I made on top of this Compilation, that I recommend you also look into.

Biggest issue I had playing this mod was how Mighty Magicka was working. It totally stopped my regeneration of magicka and is quite frankly overpowered. For example your summon, witch costs 11 magicka out of you already insane pool was pretty much as strong as yourself, able to kill an enemy by himself, and that was when you didn't get an extra one which happen sometimes.

I ended up installing Supreme Magicka instead. And to tell you, I love that mod. It ads some awesome visual effects to your magicka use and isn't overpowered.
Some notes though
Make sure to uninstall the Mighty Midas Magicka extention to the Midas Magicka since that makes the spells you get from midas Magicka as powerful as the Mighty Magicka spells.
And be aware that in the Supreme Magicka there is a inbuilt function that makes you gain experience based on the mana cost. I found that a bit to strong so I removed that function, check the ReadMe on how to configure the ini (configure) file on how to do so.

I however liked having that function in my game, since it never made sense to me that a spell you start with gives as much experience as a spell that takes your entire magicka pool. So I ended up installing Progress that I found very customizable.

A thing that I found annoying after uninstalling the Mighty Magicka thou was how all the magic item went insanely high in prices. As I understood it that comes from OOO witch is a part of the Mod Compilation and a recommendation to keep. So to counter that I downloaded Enhanced Economy which gave me a great way of customizing a big part of the economic part in the game.

Last thing I installed was a mod to edit the big map. Having about 7gb of mods and still enduring the dull boring normal map didn't seem sane to me. I ended up using this mod to fix that, and I must say I love the new map.

That should be about it. In the next post I'll go into how I changed my FPS from about 5 to 25.
