So, in my previous post I wrote about installing Oblivion again. But after doing so I had a terrible FPS. Going around with around 5 fps in most places the game was sometimes near unbearable. So I decided to take a look at what I could do to increase my performance.
1 To start of with I noticed I already had Steamline installed from the compilation. Even though I couldn't say that it gave me much FPS, I found the built in function that saves your game now and then very handy when my game decided to crash.
2 First thing I found that helped my FPS was actually changing the Power Settings on my computer to High Performance. Since it was set on Balanced before it actually doubled my fps and I was able to pass 10 fps. Made the game a bit more bearable.
3 Wanting to push even more of course I searched around and was able to find a very nice Tweak Guide for Oblivion by Koroush Ghazi. It's a bit long, but explains a lot of the settings you can change to increase performance. Some of the more advanced settings even increases performance without having to offer anything else, just using the resources you have better.
4 Now here is where things started to speed up. Since I am a greedy person in terms of what I get out of my computer, or perhaps just never gives up, I searched even more on how to increase my performance further.
That's when I found Oblivion Stutter Remover. With some minor configurations, or with non at all if you like, I was able to increase my fps that went between 8-12 normally up to 16-22 depending on location. I was impressed. This all of course without changing anything visibly. It's more like an extended configuration that uses your resources even better for maximal performance.
5 This 5th change however will change some visual effects, but with a great reward in FPS. I'm talking about the gras. There is actually 2 mods that does this, both in a little different way. LowPoly Grass and Oscars Nicer Grass. You should check them both out and see witch one you prefer and then take the one you like the most. I ended up with Oscars Nicer Grass, and while the grass might be a little scarce at times, I like how I am able to get past 30 fps at times now in the forest.
6 Yes, there is actually a 6th one that I'm looking into right now. This one takes a lot of time to do though. It's called PyFFI. It's a tool that rewrites the meshes in the game to take away useless data. The process can take days but should reduce stutter. Might be something to look into for the more hardcore player that want to push it over the edge no matter what.
However I did find for the people using QTP3, someone that have uploaded converted meshes. When putting them into my data folder the size actually went down buy about 40mb and that's without any visual change to the meshes.
7 A final note. Not increasing your FPS but thought I'd mention it anyways. Ever had your game crash when exiting? I found it very annoying. Searched around and found a mod called Fast Exit. A small download that took a way a lot of stress.
That's all for now.

Kick-starting Oblivion
So I decided to recently start playing Oblivion again. Having already played the game through once in vanilla settings I thought I'd go big this time around and go all out.
So I went on and searched around for mods that I'd use. Getting a couple I liked, install it, I thought. I was needles to say, shocked by all the programs that I needed to successfully install all the mods. And I had no idea how to go around doing it.
Worked like no tomorrow, sweeting like a pig and finally got it all installed I thought. Just to face the yellow WTF missing object stars we all love. Not finding the source I gave up.
A few days later thought I was determent to get this going. I reinstalled the game and searched high and love for a Compilation Mod. I thought that ought to work for me.
And yes, indeed did I find a mod. It was TCOM: Oblivion Mod Compilation made by a nice fella calling himself TR0LL.
You can read about it somewhere in the middle of this thread.
Download it from a torrent here or direct download here. Since I'm not able to use torrent I went with the direct download. Worked just great for me.
I downloaded it and followed this document that the maker had put together. Very easy to follow, and I actually learned how to use BOSS and BASH Patching from following this, making it very easy for me to update my game as I feel I liked.
Be aware that before you install it all, that Kobu's Character Advancement System 2.4.1 will replace the old leveling system files and can't be reverted. Although once you learn how this mod works, I don't think you'll want to go back. Just make sure to read the ReadMe on how it works and you'll be fine.
Also be careful about the Skip Intro part of the KCAS installer if you want to keep the intro part of the game. I accidentally had it removed and it took a while for me to get back in touch with the main story.
Now about some modifications I made on top of this Compilation, that I recommend you also look into.
Biggest issue I had playing this mod was how Mighty Magicka was working. It totally stopped my regeneration of magicka and is quite frankly overpowered. For example your summon, witch costs 11 magicka out of you already insane pool was pretty much as strong as yourself, able to kill an enemy by himself, and that was when you didn't get an extra one which happen sometimes.
I ended up installing Supreme Magicka instead. And to tell you, I love that mod. It ads some awesome visual effects to your magicka use and isn't overpowered.
Some notes though
Make sure to uninstall the Mighty Midas Magicka extention to the Midas Magicka since that makes the spells you get from midas Magicka as powerful as the Mighty Magicka spells.
And be aware that in the Supreme Magicka there is a inbuilt function that makes you gain experience based on the mana cost. I found that a bit to strong so I removed that function, check the ReadMe on how to configure the ini (configure) file on how to do so.
I however liked having that function in my game, since it never made sense to me that a spell you start with gives as much experience as a spell that takes your entire magicka pool. So I ended up installing Progress that I found very customizable.
A thing that I found annoying after uninstalling the Mighty Magicka thou was how all the magic item went insanely high in prices. As I understood it that comes from OOO witch is a part of the Mod Compilation and a recommendation to keep. So to counter that I downloaded Enhanced Economy which gave me a great way of customizing a big part of the economic part in the game.
Last thing I installed was a mod to edit the big map. Having about 7gb of mods and still enduring the dull boring normal map didn't seem sane to me. I ended up using this mod to fix that, and I must say I love the new map.
That should be about it. In the next post I'll go into how I changed my FPS from about 5 to 25.
